Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up within New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She became a Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was named the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared on the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her role in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the arms control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
